Heʻehōlua: Revitalizing Hawaiʻiʻs Lost Sport

“If we don’t continue our traditional practices, then the generations to come next will forget. They don’t remember them. They’ll only learn from a book. I think it’s a loss.”

Pōhaku Stone shares his journey of rediscovering and revitalizing the lost sport of hōlua, Hawaiian sledding.

Over 25 years ago, Pōhaku made his first sled and since then he has been teaching others the art of hoʻohōlua. He hopes to inspire the next generation to sled and to continue passing on our cultural knowledge.
