Notice Of Intended Disposition: Marine Corps Base Hawaiʻi Kāneʻohe Bay
In accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) Kāneʻohe Bay intends to carry out the disposition of human remains removed from Federal or Tribal lands to the lineal descendants, Indian Tribe, or Native Hawaiian organization with priority for disposition in this notice. Disposition of the human remains in this notice may occur on or after April 18, 2025. If no claim for disposition is received by March 19, 2026, the human remains in this notice will become unclaimed human remains.
MCBH recorded one discovery of likely Native Hawaiian human skeletal remains at MCBH Kāneʻohe Bay. There were no associated funerary objects. The individual represented by this discovery was encountered during archaeological testing on Jan. 24, 2024, on MCBH Kāneʻohe Bay. There was no evidence of associated archaeological features or material. Additional details can be found in the related record of consultation.
