
Nov. 28, 1843 – Kamehameha III appointed Timoteo Haʻalilio, Rev. William Richards, and Sir George Simpson as emissaries to seek the political recognition of the Hawaiian Kingdom as an independent nation. As a result of their efforts, England, France and the United States of America recognized the independence of Hawaiʻi and Nov. 28, 1843, was declared Lā Kūʻokoʻa, the official Independence Day of the Hawaiian Kingdom celebrated annually until 1893.
