Kamehameha III Birthday

Kauikeaouli Kaleiopapa Kuakamanolani Mahinalani Kalaninuiwaiakua Keaweawe‘ulaokalani was born at Keauhou Bay, Kona on Hawai‘i Island. His mother was Keōpualani, the highest- ranking wife of Kamehameha I, his father.
He was the longest reigning monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom. He became King Kamehameha III in June 1825 at 11 years old with Kuhina Nui (co-regent) Ka‘ahumanu and reigned for 29 years until his death in 1854.
During his reign he established Hawai‘i’s declaration of rights, the first Constitution of the Hawaiian Kingdom and Kumu Kānāwai (foundational laws) that were primarily based on Hawaiian values and practices. He established treaties with other nations that recognized the sovereignty of the Hawaiian Kingdom as an independent nation state – the first non-European country so recognized.
