J. Hauʻoli Lorenzo-Elarco was raised by the cold Kīpuʻupuʻu rain of Waimea, Hawaiʻi. He is an assistant professor of Hawaiian language at Honolulu Community College and coordinator of the Papahānaumokuākea Native Hawaiian Cultural Working Group (CWG), serving as chair of the Nomenclature Subcommittee. He is also a Ph.D. candidate in the Hawaiian and Indigenous Language and Culture Revitalization program at Ka Haka ʻUla o Keʻelikōlani at UH Hilo.
