Dr. Claire Hughes has been an advocate for Native Hawaiian Health for over 50 years. She became the stateʻs first Native Hawaiian Registered Dietician in 1959 and was later appointed Chief of Nutrition at the State Department of Health. Her work to promote a Traditional Hawaiian Diet and health programs for the Hawaiian community has earned her numerous awards including being named a Honpa Hongwangi “Living Treasure” in 2011.
